General Information
National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM) is an international organization promoting leadership in mathematics education. Sessions should be of interest to mathematics leaders and connected to the theme of the Conference and strands listed below. NCSM encourages speakers to provide for audience participation whenever possible.

On the following pages you will find a list of the conference strands, descriptions and guiding questions for each of the strands, proposal review information, and speaker policies and procedures. Please read through the entire document before completing the online proposal submission.
Word limits are as follows: Session Title (10 words), Proposal Description (70 words) and Proposal Detailed Description (300 words)..

Strands for the 2014 NCSM Annual Conference
  1. Teacher Evaluations and Teacher Quality: Theorectically-informed and Research-Informed Based Practices to Support Quality Instruction.
  2. Formative Assessment Driving Instruction: Planning and instructional strategies that allow teachers to collect evidence of student thinking to inform practice both individually and collaboratively
  3. STEM and Career/College Readiness: Leader Practices that Build Knowledge for an Infrastructure to Support Mathematics for Career and College Readiness
  4. Teaching and Learning in the Era of the Common Core State Standards and Assessments: Aligning Lesson Planning, Instruction, and Assessment in Light of CCSS and Mathematical Practices
  5. Understanding and Teaching CCSS Standards Progressions

At least two members of the Proposal Review Committee will review each proposal using the criteria listed below. It is the responsibility of the proposer to ensure that her/his proposal addresses these criteria.

  • Proposal clearly indicates that the session:
    • Addresses the intent of the strand selected
    • Aligns to one or more of the guiding questions from the strand
    • Involves topics important to leaders in mathematics education
    • Integrates current research and effective practices in mathematics education
    • Addresses the educational needs of diverse populations
    • Involves audience participation
  • Lead speaker provides documentation of previous regional, state, provincial, or national speaking experience
Session Types:
There are two session types:
  • Regular Sessions (60 minutes)
  • Extended Sessions (90 minutes)
Grade-Level Bands:
  • Primary (PK - 2)
  • Intermediate (3 - 5)
  • Elementary (K-5)
  • Middle (6-8)
  • High School (9 - 12)
  • College
  • General

Proposal Deadline: Midnight, June 3, 2013, PST.
