New Orleans Marriott, New Orleans, Louisiana
Submission Deadline: Monday, May 14, 2012 midnight CDT
Notification Letters sent to presenting authors by: Friday, June 22,

Abstract Submission Guidelines
All physicians interested in emergency and trauma radiology
are encouraged to submit abstracts. Presenters are encouraged to submit their
original papers to be considered for publication in the ASER Journal Emergency
Radiology. Scientific sessions at the ASER meeting are closed sessions for
members only. This closed status allows authors to submit abstracts that are
submitted for presentation at other scientific meetings, such as RSNA.
GENERAL GUIDELINES:
• All abstracts should be limited to 2300 characters.
• Abstracts should be formatted according to the guidelines for the selected category below.
• Case of the Day submissions DO NOT require a full abstract, but only a brief description.
• Scientific work can be submitted for either oral presentation or as an exhibit.
• Educational presentations are limited to the exhibit format.
SCIENTIFIC PAPERS – ORAL PRESENTATIONS:
Scientific papers are oral presentations delivered at an assigned date/time and are limited to seven minutes followed by three minutes for discussion.
Scientific paper presentations are completed hypothesis-driven research with a comprehensive report, a work-in-progress report of ongoing research of emerging ideas and techniques and containing initial yet defined results, or a brief pertinent report of a particular new aspect or understanding of clinical radiology.
Please format scientific presentations using the following content headings:
PURPOSE – This heading should include a brief background or impetus for the study. A hypothesis for the work should either be clearly stated or obvious in the stated purpose.
MATERIALS AND METHODS – This section should briefly outline subject population, methodology and techniques used.
RESULTS – This section should briefly summarize observed outcome(s) of the study. If available, specific data should be briefly noted (e.g. outcome variables, statistics).
CONCLUSION – This section should present a brief description of the overall result or conclusion of the study.
Prefer oral presentation, but willing to present poster exhibit if not selected for oral presentation:
Indicating this option allows the program chair to place your abstract, if accepted, in the poster format if it is better suited for this medium.
SCIENTIFIC AND EDUCATIONAL POSTER EXHIBIT FORMAT:
ALL POSTER EXHIBITS WILL BE DISPLAYED IN ELECTRONIC
FORMAT THIS YEAR.
While the ASER does prefer that you select the single slide format (the digital
equivalent of the printed poster), an alternate presentation option is included
below for your consideration. Note that you must confirm your preferred
method of presentation during the abstract submission process.
Following acceptance, final exhibits using the ASER preferred format must be submitted to the ASER Meeting Management office by: August 1, 2011. Revisions to your exhibit after this date are NOT allowed.
ALTERNATE FORMAT AVAILABLE:
Electronic Exhibit in multiple slide format (max: 40 slides) prepared for presentation on computer provided by presenter. (You MUST provide your own computer if you select this format.)
If this format is used, each presentation is limited to 40 slides and presentations should be created to allow the attendee to view a presentation in its entirety in approximately five minutes, as most attendees spend between 2 to 10 minutes viewing an electronic presentation.
NOTE: If this alternate format is used, the exhibit-presenter must
provide the computer for the exhibit. ASER will provide table space
and electrical connection. No internet connection is available for exhibits.
A select number of poster presenters will be asked to stand by their poster
during a specified meeting break in order to answer questions from poster
viewers. Due to the new presentation format to be used this year, this will
not be required of all poster presenters. You will be notified prior to the
meeting if you are required to attend your poster at a specific time during
the meeting.
SCIENTIFIC EXHIBIT CONTENT:
See SCIENTIFIC PAPER description above for content and heading guidelines.
EDUCATIONAL EXHIBIT CONTENT:
Educational exhibits should be designed to teach or review radiologic signs, pathologic correlations, procedures, techniques, treatments, and interventions or other aspects related to the practice of imaging.
Educational exhibits may refer to authors' personal research data in the exhibit to emphasize educational points. If the aim of the exhibit, however, is to present focused research data and conclusions, this work should be submitted as a scientific exhibit.
Educational exhibit abstracts should be constructed using the following section headings:
LEARNING OBJECTIVES/AIMS – This section should outline the specific educational goals of the presentation.
BACKGROUND – This section should explain why this material is important.
Are there misconceptions? Is this a difficult diagnosis to make?
Has how we diagnose this disorder changed over time and thus been muddled
or confused? Is this a rare or unusual diagnosis?
CONTENT – This section should present the material to achieve the educational goals outlined in the Purpose section. Consider text, illustrations, and images needed to get the point across. Also consider the order and layout. A presentation will have an easy to follow progression with clear and sufficient illustration to support the aims provided.
SUMMARY – This section briefly summarizes and reinforces the content presented with respect to the stated background and aims.
CASE OF THE DAY EXHIBITS:
Cases of the day are challenging or interesting cases which
can be diagnosed from one to four provided images. If the diagnosis is not
imaging specific, surgical or pathologic proof should be available for confirmation.
Please provide a brief clinical history of your challenging or interesting
case. A formal abstract is not necessary. If the case is accepted, a one page
discussion will be required for follow-up display at the meeting.
Case of the Day presenters will also be expected to briefly explain their
case in the general session the day after their assigned posting day. Please
note that Saturday cases will be presented directly after lunch on Saturday. These
presentations should be no more than 2 minutes in length.
Society membership by an author or co-author is not required for submitting an abstract.
All abstract presenters must register for the ASER Annual Scientific Meeting and pay corresponding registration, travel and accommodation fees.

A certificate of merit will also be awarded to the fourth and fifth place poster exhibits. Commemorative award plaques will also be distributed to the first place award winners. Certificates will be distributed to second – fifth place winners. Presentations will be scored on the basis of their scientific merit or educational content and quality of presentation.
Trainee Presentation Awards
John H. Harris, MD Award
The best oral presentation of original research by a trainee may be considered for the John H. Harris, MD Award. Presenters must be in an accredited radiology teaching program. The recipient will receive a plaque and educational books valued at $200. However, this award is not additive when in conjunction with another award. The maximum award is valued at $200 for any award winner.

The best educational poster presentation by a trainee may be considered for the Robert A. Novelline, MD Award. Presenters must be in an accredited radiology teaching program. The recipient will receive a plaque and educational books valued at $200. However, this award is not additive when in conjunction with another award. The maximum award is valued at $200 for any award winner.
